O'Dochartaigh Reunion 2023
We're excited that the O’Dochartaigh Reunion Committee has now released the dates for the next O’Dochartaigh Clann Reunion. This reunion was originally scheduled for July 2020, and then again in 2022, but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While there is always the possibility that future government restrictions could require the reunion to be postponed again, the Committee felt the need to proceed with planning and scheduling for our kin to get back to celebrating our traditions. The Reunion Committee has crafted a plan to continue the week-long event. The O’Dochartaigh Clann Reunion will take place from Wednesday, 19th July to Tuesday, 25th July 2023.
Visit the place where almost everyone is an Ó Doherty! Where? None other than the Ó Dochartataigh homeland, Inishowen in County Donegal, Ireland! Our next clan gathering, in July 2023, is a week-long event held in Inishowen, Co. Donegal and Derry City, Co. Derry. Please visit the the Ó Dochartaigh Clan Reunion website www.odochartaighreunion.com to learn more about the schedule of events, tips on travel & lodging, get yourself registered for the Reunion, and learn more about the history of our Clan Reunions through the decades. There will be many of your fellow clanfolk happy to see your smiling face come July 2023.
Our current Reunion Committee includes Jennifer Doherty and Emma Burns, both experienced travel and tour guides, who are planning an experience for you which is sure to be memorable.
The itinerary has not been released for the 2023 Reunion, but could include events such as these below, which were planned for earlier iterations of the Reunion which had to be cancelled due to COVID:
A series of new events called "Heritage Ambassador walks" through Inishowen towns such as Clonmany, Malin, Carndonagh, Moville, and Buncrana. These walks will allow participants to learn about each area—from history and heritage to flora and fauna and everything in between—as well as to meet locals.
The Genealogy Forum will include speakers on a variety of topics related to family history.
There will be an attempt on the Peace Bridge to break the clann record of gathering the most Doherty, Doughertys, Daughertys, etc in the one place! Will you help break the record?
“The Big Doherty Lunch” in the Colgan Hall is a great way to meet your fellow O’Dochartaigh cousins living in Ireland, strike up a conversation, and make new friends!
A watersports event in Moville!

This upcoming Worldwide Ó Dochartaigh Reunion is 35 years since the first gathering was held in 1985. Since the early 1980s, a dedicated group of Ó Dochartaigh volunteers in Ireland have been organizing the worldwide Clann Reunion. Although exact numbers aren't available from 1985, over 2000 visitors were in attendance. Subsequent reunions were held in 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2015. 2008 was out of the 5 year rotation and was held to honor the last Gaelic Chieftain, Cahir Rua Ó Dogherty who was killed in 1608.
