Beginning in the early 1980s, a dedicated group of O’Dochartaigh volunteers in Ireland organised the worldwide Clann Reunion. The first O’Dochartaigh Clann Reunion was held in 1985 and was a month-long event which saw over two thousand visitors. Subsequent reunions were held in 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2015. The Reunion in 2008 was out of the five-year rotation and was held to honor the last Gaelic Chieftain, Cahir Rua Ó Dogherty who was killed in 1608. Government travel and gathering restrictions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the hosting of the scheduled 2020 Reunion. Following COVID-19, our non-profit Association has suspended hosting reunions in Ireland. Our past reunions were held in Inishowen, Co. Donegal and Derry City, Co. Derry and included a variety of activities including music, dancing, genealogy workshops, heritage tours, and more. Presently, The Clann O'Dochartaigh Association (a non-for-profit) has been hosting virtual clann hangout reunions via Zoom.
