On May 3, 2025, a devastating fire destroyed half of the Famine Village on the Isle of Doagh, County Donegal.
Pat Doherty “Shan”, a previous member of the O’Dochartaigh Clann Association Committee, built the acclaimed attraction on his homeplace into a world-renowned destination tourist exhibition.
This outdoor museum, known as the Doagh Famine Village, tells the stories of our Irish heritage and culture from the Great Famine to the present day. For nearly 30 years, Pat “Shan” has dedicated his life to preserving and sharing this legacy.

Here is a video interview of Pat Shan explaining what happened: https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025/05/05/donegal-famine-village-fire-cause-identified-as-air-compressor/
An Appeal from the O’Dochartaigh Clann Association
Now the O’Dochartaigh Clann Association makes a general appeal.
Please help a fellow clann member rebuild his incredible outdoor museum.
Our Association President, Eva Doherty Gremmert, reached out to Pat on Sunday, and he has confirmed that he would gratefully accept any donations offered by us.
Support Through Our Association Website
Our website — www.odochartaighassociation.org — is a collaborative place to celebrate our common lineage. In addition to collecting donated genealogical family trees, hosting online Zoom classes, and much more, we also hold fundraising campaigns.
Our current goal is to raise $100,000 to help Pat and Majella recover from this tragedy. Every dollar received for this Doagh Famine Village appeal by our 501(c)(3) will go directly to Pat and Majella. Donations are eligible charitable donations in the United States.
Please go to our association website, www.odochartaighassociation.org, scroll to the lower left, and click the DONATE button today to make a much-needed contribution.
(Some users had issues with the direct donation link, so we've removed it to avoid confusion)
